Benefits of pennywort
No, no. We are not going to offer you any sweetened sparkling drinks here. Instead, we would like to introduce to you the Indian "fountain of life", which the locals and practitioners of the martial and soothing art of tai chi cannot get enough of.
Centella asiatica is rather not a familiar name for the Asian umbilical cord. In Ayurveda and Chinese folk medicine, it has been a symbol of longevity for thousands of years and is also called the ''herb of enlightenment''.
This climbing green plant with white or light purple flowers loves the wetlands of the tropical and subtropical zones. You can easily find it in the wetter areas of China, India or Sri Lanka, but also in Madagascar or Indonesia.
Centella asiatica can clean the soil of heavy metals, so it is crucial to check where the plant comes from. The leaves and stems are often processed for consumption and then dried for extracts, infusions or tinctures. Asian cuisine also traditionally uses it to enhance the flavour of spicy dishes and salads.
If you prefer a tea blend with Centella asiatica, the optimal amount is two cups a day for three weeks. After this period, there should be a one-week break. Centella asiatica is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women and young children.
