Jamaica Blue Mountain – Roasted Coffee
Jamaica coffee
Jamaica was introduced to coffee in the mid-18th century and has not given it up since. The Blue Mountains are the most famous coffee-growing area with favourable climate and mountain conditions. Blue Mountain coffee is known for its wonderful aroma and sweet taste. However, Jamaicans also grow coffee elsewhere. However, they always stick to altitudes of 1500-1600 metres and locations with higher annual rainfall.
The quality and export of coffee in Jamaica is overseen by the Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Authority. The direct responsibility for coffee production and farmer assistance is taken over by CIDCO. The Coffee Industry Regulation Act determines what coffee can carry the Blue Mountain label.
