Panama coffee

Panama has been successful with its coffee all over the world. Its quality is due to the nutrient-rich volcanic soil and the northern winds that provide a unique microclimate that slows the ripening of the coffee cherries. Of course, careful harvesting and processing also contribute. Panamanian farmers devote the period from December to March to them.

In Panama, coffee is grown at altitudes of 1,000-1,600 metres in the Boquete, Volcán and Renacimiento regions. In terms of the type of coffee, over 80 % is arabica (Typica, Caturra, Catuai, Bourbon, Geisha, San Ramon, Pache, Mundo Novo), and the rest is robusta. Panama's share of the world coffee market is about 1 %.
