Benefits of Dead-nettles
Dead-nettles is no newcomer to the field of traditional medicine. Already in the 16th century, it was said to be able to cheer the mind, brighten the cheeks and give life force. But dead-nettles, as this name suggests, can do more.
Dead-nettles is a perennial herb, usually growing in damp and shady places. It is found in forests and woodlands across most of Europe but has spread to much of Asia and North America. It usually grows to a height of 50 centimetres. Because of its sharply serrated leaves and stem structure, it is relatively easy to confuse it with nettles in the period before flowering. From May to September, it is blooms with large white flowers which attract bees and other insects with their sweet nectar. Because of its colour and the time of its first appearance, the dead-nettles is nicknamed the White Archangel. The Lamium album is considered a so-called female herb. Formerly, its flowers were collected mainly for their benefits. However, due to its susceptibility to damage during collection and the difficulty of proper conditions during drying, it has gradually been switched to the use of the stem. It has a slightly lower content of chemical compounds beneficial to our health but makes up for it with added minerals and trace elements. Its decoction can be drunk or used for baths and poultices. There are no known side effects, yet continuous consumption in reasonable doses should not exceed eight weeks.
