Lemonade in summer, tea in winter. A great refreshment and a thorough warming. That is ginger, as we know and love it. Not to mention its important role in Asian cuisine. A simple underground part of the plant that can do wonders for our health.
There is very little that ginger cannot do. The ginger rhizome is simply magical. China and India are fighting over its origins, but at its core, it does not matter. Both countries have enjoyed its benefits for thousands of years and have inspired the rest of the world.
In our market, you can come across it in various forms. It can be bought fresh, which is wonderful for flavouring dishes and making homemade lemonades. In the spice section, you will find its finely ground dried version and last but not least, lovers of candied and variously pickled versions will find it to their liking. While pickled ginger is used as an accompaniment to sushi, candied pieces of the rhizome are added to tea blends to flavour and perfume the entire infusion. Dried (unground) pieces can also be used to make a delicate beverage, but we recommend choosing careful freeze-preservation to preserve all the benefits.
The recommended dosage for adults is a maximum of four grams of ginger per day, but pregnant women should be more moderate and make do with only one gram. People taking aspirin, or suffering from diabetes or gallstones, should also consult a medical practitioner beforehand.
