Benefits of Horsetails
You will not put it in a vase and will not like to smell it during a walk through the blooming nature. Nevertheless, we should not miss it because it hides the main thing - plenty of health benefits.
Horsetail comes from the ancient genus Equisetum. Its ancestor is said to have measured a hard-to-believe 30 metres. Even today, some species can grow up to five metres. However, much smaller horsetails, such as Field horsetail, are used for herbalism and natural medicine. Equisetum arvense, as it is called in Latin, is a perennial plant about 50 centimetres tall without flowers or leaves. It possesses typical branched stems. It is at home in Europe and Asia but can also be found on the American continent. It prefers moist soil with plenty of nutrients but can grow quickly almost anywhere. Because of its long history, horsetail has been studied extensively in medicine. And not only by European herbalists but also, for example, by shamans of Indian tribes.
The infusion beneficial to our health is prepared from its flowers. The resulting decoction can be drunk, but it can also be used for baths or poultices. If you want to collect the horsetail yourself, be careful not to confuse it with the mud horsetail, which is poisonous. Even when buying dried horsetail, we advise you to check its source. Consumption is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women and people with vitamin B1 deficiency.
