Benefits of Lady's mantle
For a language as poetic and sonorous as Czech is, foreign languages sometimes give it a beating. One example for all of them - in our country ''kontryhel'', in English Lady's Mantles. It makes one want to know more about it, does it not?
Lady's Mantles, whose Latin name is alchemilla vulgaris, is a perennial herb that grows throughout Europe and parts of Asia and North America. As the name alchemilla suggests, the plant was widely used in the Middle Ages. It was believed to be able to turn base metal into gold under certain circumstances and also played a vital role in the preparation of the elixir of youth. The recipes would be interesting, but unfortunately, they are not available. So modern times have to make do with the proven health benefits of this herb.
Lady's Mantles has tiny leaves resembling a lady's cape and inconspicuous yellow flowers. It prefers mountainous areas (it can also be found on the edges of the Himalayas or the Caucasus) and humid environments. It flowers from May to August.
In Sweden, it is customary to place the Lady's Mantles flower petals under your pillow to help you fall asleep.
However, a more common method of treatment is to dry the leaves and flowers and then prepare a tincture or golden infusion with a slightly bitter taste. It is commonly available on its own or added to a tea blend. There are no known side effects, yet a reasonable dosage is recommended, especially for long-term use.
