Benefits of mango
Look out, here comes the King of Fruits! That is the nickname of mango. It is no wonder this exotic fruit has conquered the whole world with its distinctive and delicious flavour.
One is always happy when something so good is also healthy. And that is the case of mangoes.
The home of this fruit is South Asia, specifically India, Pakistan and the Philippines. In Bangladesh, the mango tree is even the national tree. The name comes from Tamil, one of the oldest languages still alive. The first references date back to four thousand years ago, but according to fossils, the history reaches much further - approximately 25-30 million years.
The mango grows on an evergreen, shaggy tree that Buddhists consider a symbol of love and trust. According to legend, the Buddha chose its shade for rest and meditation.
There are many varieties of mangoes. Not surprisingly, the fruits vary in colour, weight and size. But one thing they all have in common is a juicy and sweet taste.
The fresh flesh is mainly used in gastronomy, but the mango leaves also provide health benefits. Apart from the aforementioned vitamin B6, fibre and iron, the fruit is rich in vitamins A, C and other B vitamins, as well as copper, magnesium, potassium, calcium and phosphorus. Despite its intoxicating sweet taste, it is surprisingly low in calories, so you should have no qualms about eating it.
