Benefits of Neem
The Persians called it a precious wood, and Ayurveda proved them right. This plant, still unknown to most of us, has a long history.
The tree, which has been known for 5,000 years, grows freely throughout India. But it can also be found in parts of Africa and China. It is a relatively tall, slender and bushy tree with large leaves. At first glance, it does not impress, but when closely examined, it is a tree of extraordinary utility. Almost all parts of it can be used. Especially in India, you will find many people biting its branches to replace toothbrushes. Of course, wood and tallow are also processed for economic purposes.
In our area, mainly dried leaves and twigs are available. They are often made into a fine greenish powder. It has a bitter taste when dissolved in water, which many people like to soften with honey, for example. Neem should not be given to young children, and people who have liver and kidney problems should consult their GP first.
Neem cannot be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women. It is also not suitable for those planning a pregnancy.
