Benefits of papaya
The magic of exoticism and the fruit of angels. That is papaya - the Star of Pacific cuisine and the Queen of desserts.
The papaya is the fruit of a strange plant that looks like a mature tree but is just a woody herb with a hollow stem. The fruit has a typical deep orange colour. Inside its flesh, it hides plenty of seeds with a spicy to hot taste.
In addition to the fruit, the leaves of the palm-like plant are also used.
Originally, papaya came from Central America, specifically Mexico. Today, it can be found throughout the subtropics and tropics. The largest producer is India, but it is very popular in the national cuisine of Hawaii, the Philippines and Australia. Its sweet and juicy flavour is clearly to blame. In contrast, the seeds can be used as a pepper substitute, and the leaves can be eaten as a spinach-like garnish.
In addition to fresh fruit, you can also find compote or candied fruit pieces and dried leaves on our market, which are suitable for making infusions.
If you want to taste papaya unpeeled, it should be cooked first. That is especially true for pregnant and breastfeeding women, as the raw skin contains quite a lot of latex and other undesirable substances.
