Benefits of peach
What do you picture when you say "stone fruit"? Sounds a bit inedible - does it not? And yet, it is one of the sweetest and juiciest fruits that has become domesticated in our country. It is a peach, the hairy cousin of the nectarine.
The cradle of the peach is the north-western region of China, where its traces go back more than 4,000 years. In Latin, they are called Persica, which evokes their origins in Persia, but this is not the case. Nowadays, the cultivation of these fruits has spread to almost the entire world. However, peaches are demanding, preferring a continental climate with plenty of light and heat. The fruit is enjoying a popularity wave in the USA, especially in Georgia and California.
Because of its shape, the peach is often regarded as a symbol of femininity and in China, it is a sign of friendship and immortality. It grows on smaller trees (peach trees), which have an average life span of about 12 years.
Surprisingly, this fruit is related to the rose. There are now approximately 180 varieties in the world, differing in size, colour, shape and sensory characteristics. However, they all have one thing in common - a relatively large stone, which is also protected by a hard crust (hence the nickname ''stone fruit'').
July is the month of the peach when the ripe fruit is to be harvested. But you can enjoy them all year round, as even the dried pieces retain their perfect aroma and flavour.
