Benefits of Red clover
You may have heard of clover, but have you heard how beneficial it is? But before that, a little bit about the herb. Red clover (Trifolium pratense) from the fabaceae family grows along forests or roads in rich, humid soil – at least in Europe. However, you can also spot it around North Africa and West Asia and nowadays even in North & South America or Australia, where it spread through agriculture.
It grows up to 20-80 centimeters and its, as the scientific name suggests, has trifoliate leaves decorated with a white V-shape. Its round flowerheads range from light to dark pink or red color and consist of numerous fragrant, tiny petals, which are highly attractive to pollinators such as bees or butterflies.
Red clover contains:
- Isoflavones – substance similar to estrogen
- Flavonoids – antioxidants
- Coumarins – anticoagulants
- Essential oils
- Vitamins A, B1, B3, E & C
- Minerals such as magnesium, sodium, calcium. Iron, phosphorus & chrome
