Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is called the natural Valium. It was one of the first to make its mark in the field of homoeopathy.
It occurs naturally in Europe and Asia but can also be found in North America. In the Czech Republic, it is abundant and occurs in mountains and lowland areas. However, it also grows in unsuitable places, so we always advise to check its origin.
In flower, it has a specific smell, which cats love. However, the root is most commonly used. Its benefits have been known since the time of the famous Greek physician Galen, and Valerian experienced a popularity wave in the Middle Ages. As a natural panacea, it was recognized by doctors and grandmothers as a root.
The so-called valerian drops (a tincture of Valerian) are still widely known today. However, the infusion of the dried root is also excellent - its taste is rather bitter, but it combines well with honey, for example. Moreover, you can indulge in it for a long time, preferably in moderation.
