Benefits of Yellow sweet clover
Yellow sweet clover is not a Cinderella in the herbarium. On the contrary. Its benefits were used by our ancestors in abundance. After all, they could pick it on every embankment, pasture or along every road. They recognized it safely - it has distinctive yellow flowers (which smell beautifully and distinctively) and a typical stalk with three-parted leaves. It grows to a height of around 150 centimetres and is harvested just as it is flowering, from June to September.
It has acquired several names thanks to its properties, to name but a few: bee herb (it provides bees with plenty of pollen and nectar), alfalfa (its flowers shine like lanterns), horse clover (often seen in pastures, however, it is not very tasty to horses).
This biennial is commonly found in Europe and Asia, and as an invasive species, it is found in South Africa or America.
Among the substances for which it is so popular are coumarin and melatonin. Both are strongly aromatic, and coumarin is even used in the production of perfumes. Yellow sweet clover also contains tannins, flavonoids, essential oils and phytoncides.
This herb is not only used to prepare tea and tea blends, it is also used to make tinctures, ointments, poultices and even wine.
