The wheat will not bloom here? That might seem like a problem. On the contrary, it is a great idea to harvest this grain before it blooms. How else would you get such a superfood as young green wheat?
The green shoots come from classic wheat - sown as you know and see it in the fields. However, the harvest occurs very early, before the plant has flowered. The young wheat retains its bright green colour and is gluten-free thanks to the large amount of chlorophyll.
Ayurveda and Chinese medicine have known it for its beneficial effects for centuries. In the West, however, its use has been limited to feeding livestock. It was not until the 1930s that a significantly positive effect of young wheat on poultry health and egg quality was observed. After that, it was only a short step to investigating its effects on the human body, and the superfood label was born.
Green wheat is a food miracle, both nutritionally and in terms of its many vital substances. Because of its easy processing into a fine powder, it is ideal for making smoothies, but you can also find recipes for soups or muffins. Compared to green barley, which is similar in many ways, it is more neutral and less ''grassy'' in taste. In general, it is well tolerated, so you can indulge in it in reasonable quantities over the long term. However, people with various allergies to plants should be cautious - smaller doses are recommended, and possible reactions should be monitored, or a medical professional should be consulted.
