Benefits of Coltsfoot
Coltsfoot, or in Czech ''lopušnice'' or also ''babuška''. Even under these names, you might find the underbrush in the herbaria of herbalists. And believe us, this plant would be written there in big letters. It has done a great job in traditional medicine.
Coltsfoot, sometimes referred to as Common Coltsfoot, is a perennial herb with a bright yellow flower seemingly resembling a dandelion. It grows all over Europe but can also be found in Asia, the USA, and Canada or northern Africa. It prefers moist soil around streams and rivers or can be found in meadows and fields.
In the British Isles, the leaves of the underbelly were formerly used for a glimpse into the future. Lighting them was then used to summon a loved one. The leaves were also smoked, believed to prevent lung cancer. As you will agree, not all of the traditional powers of the Coltsfoot are based on truth. However, this fortunately does not apply to the health benefits of this herb. It can serve us best in the form of a decoction, compress or tincture. However, in addition to its beneficial substances, it also contains small amounts of alkaloids, which can damage the liver in excessive doses. Therefore, we recommend consuming the infusion for a maximum of 4-6 weeks, and one to two cups a day is sufficient.
The decoction is not suitable for children and pregnant or breastfeeding women. People with liver and heart disease should consult their doctor before use.
Approved health benefits:
- Normal upper respiratory tract function
