Probably no other flower has countless forms. In full bloom, it resembles the sun. Then comes the silver full moon, and when the wind blows it into the fluff, it flies like hundreds of stars. But the real magic of the dandelion lies within.
It was estimated that the first dandelions bloomed in Eurasia more than 30 million years ago. Up to 40 centimetres tall, the plant with its striking leaves and even more striking perianth is an integral part of meadows and gardens in temperate zones.
The dandelion is not only a source of endless children's entertainment in the form of knitting wreaths and blowing fluffy seedpods. It is a rich container of vitamins (A, B, C and K), calcium, iron and many other substances beneficial to the body.
It is an edible flower. Apart from its decorative function, it can also be used in various dishes or as a caffeine-free substitute for coffee and black tea. The most popular, however, is the infusion made from the leaves or stems harvested from spring to late summer. Its taste is slightly bitter, but the benefits are worth it. Dandelion can effectively absorb heavy metals from the soil, so it is important to check the source of the harvested parts of the flower.
No side effects have been reported in connection with the consumption of dandelion decoction. However, as with all herbs, we advise reasonable consumption. After about two months, we recommend a break for a few weeks, and if you are taking medication for liver or urinary tract problems, consult your GP.
