Origins
Oranges are adored by citrus lovers all over the world. Orange trees (Citrus) belong to the Rosaceae family and are native to southern China and Indochina area. They‘re evergreen trees or shrubs that can grow up to 10m and have dark green, glossy leaves and flowers with white petals. Today, they are grown any country with the right climate and conditions. These include Spain (where the quality and sweetness of the oranges are outstanding), Italy (Italian oranges are highly prized for their juiciness and strong flavor), California, and Brazil. Each country has its varieties of oranges with distinctive flavors and quality.
Thanks to international trade, oranges are available globally and bring joy to millions of people with their sweet, refreshing aroma. The fruit of the orange tree is round to oval and can vary in size depending on the variety. The skin of the fruit is usually orange and thick, protecting the sweet flesh inside. Many varieties of oranges have the inside divided into small, juicy segments. What makes oranges so fragrant? It’s the essential oils contained in the skin. These oils are rich in substances called terpenes. When you peel oranges, they release this essential oil. It's often used in food and beverage production. It is extracted by pressing orange skins and can then be added to syrups to, for example, flavor your coffee.
But there are many more ways to work your syrup magic, for example:

- Cocktails – orange syrup is a perfect ingredient for making refreshing and tasty cocktails. For example, you can use it as a base for an orange mojito at a summer party.

- Pancakes – orange syrup is an ideal alternative to maple syrup. It adds a sweet and juicy flavor to pancakes.
- Marinades – it can be a base for making marinades for meat or vegetables. Its sweet acidity adds a unique flavor balance to the dish.
- Sauces – it can be used as an ingredient in sauces, adding a subtle fruity flavor. Try it, for example, in an orange glaze on chicken wings or a sauce for pork.
