Taste & Crema

Lightly roasted Peru Geisha Origen Esquilaya Microlot mostly plays the notes of light florals and refreshing citruses. In the aroma, you can notice traces of jasmine or roses. Meanwhile the taste is full of florals and juicy citruses, as well as a pleasant sweetness reminiscent of honey or grape juice. Light roasting emphasizes the natural distinctive character of the bean, so prepare for a higher and clearer acidity that's guaranteed to refresh you. The body remains elegant and the aftertaste is lasting and sweetly refreshing.

Origins

Lovers of specialty coffee, we have a real gem for you. We’ve brought in an exceptionally elegant Geisha from the Puno region of Peru, an area that’s becoming one of the most interesting on the world’s coffee map.

Peru currently ranks among the top ten coffee producers in the world. It creates over 4 million bags of coffee annually, and just to give you an idea – in the first two months of 2024 alone, it exported $132 million worth of coffee. Peru also holds the top spot as the largest exporter of certified organic and Fair Trade Arabica; moreover, most of the coffee comes from small farms located at higher altitudes. There, coffee plants are grown in the shade of trees, often in accordance with rainforest conservation principles.

Let’s get even more specific. Esquilaya Geisha comes from the mountainous region of Esquilaya, at an elevation of 1,700–1,800 m. More precisely, it's harvested in the province of Sandia, renowned primarily for its arabica varieties – Typica, Caturra, Bourbon, and, more recently, yes, the top-tier Geisha. Now you taste this very coffee in its purest form.

Farmer Jimmy Julian Larico deserves immense credit for the quality of this coffee. He created a micro-lot so exquisite that, according to the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) ranking, it received 87.75 points! This score is based on a cupping by professionals who observed and evaluated the coffee’s flavor, aroma, acidity, sweetness, and other characteristics. When a coffee scores more than 80 points, it's designated as 'select'. But if it scores over 87 points, you can be sure it's an exceptional micro-lot with magnificent flavor clarity and complexity.

The uniqueness of the Esquilaya Geisha Arabica is, of course, due in part to the washed processing method. This involves fermenting the coffee in water tanks, during which the remaining pulp is removed. The result is a clean flavor profile, a lighter body, more pronounced acidity, and a taste that faithfully reflects the natural environment of the high mountains of Esquilaya.

In addition to the farmer, the Peruvian hills, and the workers who carefully processed the beans, we would also like to thank the Coteca S.R.L. cooperative. The support of this organization, which helps farmers with cupping, exporting, and ensuring fair conditions, is absolutely essential. It's only thanks to this organization that coffee from remote mountainous regions can reach roasteries and coffee shops around the world – and your table as well.

Coffee packaging preview

Our quality aluminum packaging lacks any bold graphics, as we’d rather focus on the taste of our coffee. It always comes fresh thanks to degassing valve, which releases the gases that occur after roasting. Thanks to the hermetic seal, this container helps the contents further keep their freshness and protect them against humidity, light or foreign odors.

Instructions for preparation

  1. Coarsely grind your coffee.
  2. For every 14 ml of water, add 1g of coffee to a V60 filter.
  3. Using circular motions, pour boiled water (93°C) over the coffee.
