Origins
It is always interesting to find out how coffee has found its way to a particular country or region. For the Serrano Mineiro region, farming, let alone coffee cultivation, has long been a pipe dream. Years of drought and the unpreparedness of the hilly landscape's inhabitants to grow the crop were only changed by government plans in the 1960s. Thanks to irrigation, the inhabitants were not only able to raise cattle but scientists and farmers were also able to stimulate the soil to become particularly suitable for growing coffee trees. The beans have a wonderful and unique flavor and are processed in a somewhat unusual way – by a dry process.
In the Serrano Mineiro region, 4,500 coffee producers cultivate their plantations at an altitude of 800-1,300m. The result is influenced not only by their meticulous daily work but also by the climate, with hot and humid summers alternating with mild and dry winters. All local farmers must be affiliated with the Cerrado Mineiro Coffee Federation. Just like José Renato Rodrigues Alves, from whose plantation Brazil Cerrado Black Diamond coffee comes.
The young man took over the Chacara Vista Alegre farm from his father. Soon afterwards, he decided to enter "his" coffee in the prestigious Cup of Excellence 2014 competition, the most important coffee competition in Brazil. His parents thought it was sheer folly, but José Renato succeeded with the coffee from the family farm and came in a remarkable 5th place. It catapulted the plantation to the top in Brazil and created a huge global demand. José Renato has added another hectare of land to his 2.5 hectare plantation and is working tirelessly to develop his business. Recently, his family has grown, too, with the birth of Benjamin, the heir to the farming craft.
The coffee is harvested by hand by workers on the farm and left to "wilt" in the sun for 24-36 hours. After removing defective or otherwise unsuitable cherries, they transfer the harvest to what is known as African beds, cement terraces on which they spread the berries in a medium-thin layer. In this way, they dry the coffee until it reaches 13.5% moisture. Finally, they mechanically remove the dry skins and clean the loosened beans.
Let us conclude by mentioning what the Cup of Excellence 2014 jury appreciated about the coffee from Chacara Vista Alegre Farm: the aromas of vanilla, peaches, apples, muscat, melon, as well as Chinese pears, raspberries, blueberries, honey, and figs. The experts were impressed by the smooth, pure pineapple yet milky acidity and described the body of the coffee as distinctive, very complex, smooth, elegant, and well-balanced.
All the nuances are best enjoyed in an espresso or a drink prepared in a French press.

Coffee packaging preview
Our quality aluminum packaging lacks any bold graphics, as we’d rather focus on the taste of our coffee. It always comes fresh thanks to degassing valve, which releases the gases that occur after roasting. Thanks to the hermetic seal, this container helps the contents further keep their freshness and protect them against humidity, light or foreign odors.
