Origins
The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is found in East Africa, adjacent to Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Sudan, and South Sudan. It is one of the poorest countries on the planet, and its agriculture is very backward, but it provides a secure source of livelihood for its people. In Ethiopia, only 17% of the land is still being used, but the potential is much greater. Despite the difficulties facing local farmers, it is the world's leading coffee producer. After all, it was in Ethiopia that coffee plants were supposedly discovered by a herder of goats who discovered their energizing abilities after chewing on the red cherries growing on the bushes. It happened as early as the 9th century, but the first written record of this event dates back to 1671.
Today, Ethiopia is Africa's most important coffee producer and approximately the 7th largest producer in the world. Ethiopia is also a high-consuming country, with about half of the harvest remaining domestically. Ethiopians produce around 380,000t of coffee annually. And because of their affection for coffee, no important event is without it. The ceremony lasts up to 4 hours and even kids can take part in it. At the end of the, all participants sip coffee that is heavily sweetened with sugar, but without milk.
The Sidamo region, where the Ethiopia Sidamo Durato Bombe microlot originates, is one of the traditional coffee regions. The bushes are planted in the highlands at an altitude of around 2,000m, so their fruit ripens more slowly and can therefore take longer to absorb nutrients and develop a more robust flavor. Sidamo was likely the area where coffee plants first appeared. The name of this coffee also indicates that it grew near the village of Bombe Kebele, below Mount Bombe. That is where brothers Asef and Muluget Dukamo, who founded Daye Bensa Coffee in 2006, cultivate their crop. It operates 16 washing stations and four dry mills.
Because Ethiopia Sidamo Durato Bombe is one of the coffees that are extremely carefully grown and processed, we know where it was grown, who cared for it, and how it was processed. The hand-picked coffee cherries went to a factory in the town of Qunqna. There they were sorted and placed in the sun to dry. Only then did workers strip them of the skin and the pulp. As a result, the coffee's fruity notes and freshness come through very strongly.

Our quality aluminum packaging lacks any bold graphics, as we’d rather focus on the taste of our coffee. It always comes fresh thanks to degassing valve, which releases the gases that occur after roasting. Thanks to the hermetic seal, this container helps the contents further keep their freshness and protect them against humidity, light or foreign odors.
