Brew & Taste

Origins

Chicory (Cichorium intybus) is a blue-flowering perennial plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. Although native to Europe, it can now be found in various parts of the world. For centuries, chicory has been used as a leafy vegetable and also for its medicinal properties, especially due to the benefits of its root. It can contribute to normal liver and gallbladder function, promote healthy digestion and proper blood sugar levels, and contribute to normal bone and joint health. However, it was only a matter of time before someone discovered its potential as a coffee substitute.

As a coffee alternative, chicory became particularly popular during the American Civil War, especially in New Orleans which was then home to the 2nd largest coffee harbor in the world. The blockade of the port during the war led to coffee shortages and chaos for the residents, who were desperate for an alternative, and chicory proved to be the ideal choice. As early as the 17th century, however, the French brought the habit of adding chicory to drinks to their colonies in North America. After the war, New Orleanians didn't abandon chicory, and the trend became even more widespread.

Used as a spice for thousands of years, cinnamon is the bark of the cinnamon tree, which can grow up to 10m. There are two types of cinnamon trees – Ceylon and Cassia. The more common type, the one you will most often come across in grocery stores, is Cassia cinnamon, which comes from the Cinnamomum Cassia tree. Ceylon cinnamon, or true cinnamon, is of higher quality, contains less coumarin (which has questionable health benefits) and comes from the Ceylon cinnamon tree (Cinnamomum Zeylanicum). This type of cinnamon has a long history of use in traditional medicine in various parts of the world. It contains many compounds that have potentially positive effects on the human body. It has antioxidant properties and helps normal blood sugar levels, cardiovascular function, digestion, bowel function, stomach function, respiratory function, reproductive function, urinary function and normal skin, body, head and teeth.

Coffee packaging preview

Our quality aluminum packaging lacks any bold graphics, as we’d rather focus on the taste of our coffee. It always comes fresh thanks to degassing valve, which releases the gases that occur after roasting. Thanks to the hermetic seal, this container helps the contents further keep their freshness and protect them against humidity, light or foreign odors.
