Congo Ngula – Organic Light Roast Coffee
Light roasting gives this Congolese Ngula a whole new dimension. On filter, its juiciness, citrus-like acidity, and rich notes of fruit – preserved thanks to the light roasting – all excel. It melts together the sweetness of honey, refreshing grapefruit, and ripe, juicy plums. The result is a pure, lively, and extra authentic experience that takes you straight to the volcanic landscape of the Kivu region.

Organic Congo Ngula light roast will captivate you with its intense yet elegant flavor profile. Its more pronounced acidity, reminiscent of pink grapefruit, gives the coffee energy as well as a refreshing air. Meanwhile, the sweet notes of honey and ripe plums create a pleasantly harmonious contrast. What's more, lighter roasting allows the individual layers of flavor to shine with maximum clarity and brightness. On filter, this coffee feels extraordinarily complex, juicy, and gives a lasting, fruity aftertaste.
Origins
The Kivu region refers to the large area surrounding Lake Kivu, which encompasses not only territory in the Democratic Republic of the Congo but also in Rwanda. It's characterized by lush vegetation, high hills, and volcanic bedrock. Diverse nature is not limited to the area around the lake in the Congo; the rainforests are known for their high biological diversity and are home to numerous endemic plant and animal species. In fact, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is the most biologically diverse country in Africa.
Since it lies on the equator, the Congo experiences the most thunderstorms in the world. The climate is tropical, with high temperatures and humidity. In the north, the dry season lasts from November to March, and the rainy season runs from April to October. In the south, the opposite is true. Temperatures tend to be relatively stable, with little variation between the seasons. The greatest temperature fluctuations occur between day and night, when it can cool down by as much as 27°C. As for coffee trees, they're grown at higher altitudes here. This allows the coffee cherries to ripen more slowly and gradually. At the same time, substances essential for the flavor and aroma of the final coffee accumulate in them over a longer period.
Congo Ngula organic coffee comes from Idwji Island on Lake Kivu, so its profile is also influenced by abundant rainfall and high humidity. It's interesting to note that locals view the island as a place with a tragic history and a promising future. Once a haven for rebels, smugglers, and criminals, the area is transforming into an agricultural region where farmers support one another. Thanks to their collaboration within the CPNCK cooperative, they've been successfully eliminating illegal trade and building a peaceful community of farmers (and more) since 2012.
The small local farms grow mainly arabica varieties like Typica and Bourbon at an altitude of 1,600-1,800 meters. All without the use of industrial fertilizers or pesticides. The coffee trees thrive thanks to the fertile volcanic soil, but also to the farmers’ sustainable approach to cultivation – they use dried coffee husks, known as cascara, as fertilizer. The coffee trees are harvested from March to June, processed through washing, and the green coffee beans are dried on special tables under direct sunlight. Thus, top-quality coffee from Idwji Island makes its way into the world, winning numerous awards in international competitions.

Coffee packaging preview
Our quality aluminum packaging lacks any bold graphics, as we’d rather focus on the taste of our coffee. It always comes fresh thanks to degassing valve, which releases the gases that occur after roasting. Thanks to the hermetic seal, this container helps the contents further keep their freshness and protect them against humidity, light or foreign odors.
