Taste & Crema

Rwanda Fully Washed Muhondo delights with its sweet taste, velvety smooth body, and citrus acidity. This coffee excels as an espresso, and its nuances can also be enjoyed when filtered or brewed in a moka pot. Its crema is supple, compact, and smooth.

Origins

The origin of coffee always matters. In the case of Rwanda Fully Washed Muhondo, it's a volcanic hill whose soil is rich in minerals. Combined with the East African alpine climate, this creates a unique microclimate. The arabica coffee plant (Coffea arabica) thrives in cooler temperatures. They allow the beans to ripen longer, allowing the flavor to concentrate for months.

Rwanda itself, or the Republic of Rwanda, was introduced to coffee during colonization. Farmers there began to grow high-yielding, low-cost varieties in the 1930s under the supervision of the Belgian and German governments. Quality was not the most important then. In the 1990s, the country suffered a national tragedy, with almost a million people killed, and development slowed to a halt. Only at the beginning of the new millennium did the government begin to encourage the population to grow more coffee plants. Since then, it has promoted its quality, advocated for participation in auctions, and ensured fair export conditions.

Today, Rwanda contributes 0.2% to the world coffee market. But its reputation is growing rapidly. It has won high places in many international competitions.

It is reported that coffee is grown by about 450,000 smallholder farmers in Rwanda (an average of 165 coffee trees per farmer). Approximately 95% of the plants produce bourbon variety of high-quality arabica. The coffee cherries are hand-harvested from March to July. Washed processing provides a pleasant aroma and fruity flavor.

Flavour and aroma

More sparingly roasted coffee offers a richer and more complex flavour profile. It retains more authentic nuances specific to the growing region, including fruity, floral or nutty notes.

Health benefits

In particular, quality coffee roasted to its ideal profile may contain higher levels of antioxidants such as chlorogenic acid and other phenolic compounds. These substances have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Unroasted premium coffee is also gentler on the stomach, as it contains fewer acids that can irritate.

Environmental friendliness

Plantation coffee is often grown with greater respect for the environment, with an emphasis on sustainable cultivation and fair trade, which can have a positive impact on growers and their communities.

Coffee packaging preview

Our quality aluminum packaging lacks any bold graphics, as we’d rather focus on the taste of our coffee. It always comes fresh thanks to degassing valve, which releases the gases that occur after roasting. Thanks to the hermetic seal, this container helps the contents further keep their freshness and protect them against humidity, light or foreign odors.
