The taste of green coffee is often compared to a weak green tea; some even say it reminds them of legumes. Slim Coffee is smooth, pleasantly sweet, and if you really take time to enjoy it, you can easily find a trace of roasted coffee. Once brewed, the drink is almost foamless.
Origins
Central America generally produces very good coffee processed with the wet method characterized with a mild flavor and a slight sweetness. It is grown at different altitudes, with the best quality and most expensive coffee coming from high-altitude plantations. The vast majority of Central American plantations can be said to be farmed by poor smallholders. Coffee is their only source of livelihood, so they take great care of it. Coffee berries are harvested from coffee bushes almost throughout the whole growing season.
The berries ripen gradually, over a period of 9-14 months. They are also known as cherries because they resemble the fruit in appearance and size.
The fruit is placed into special water tanks and pushed through crushing plates. This strips them of their pulp and releases the coffee beans. This is followed by fermentation in huge tanks which breaks down the last remnants of the pulp and the parchment layers.
It can take up to 36 hours. The coffee then needs to be dried – some plantations dry the coffee in the sun, others use drying ovens, and others combine both methods. It is important to ensure airflow so that the coffee does not mold. Green coffee is not roasted. It retains the maximum amount of valuable substances and the original natural flavor and aroma.
Green coffee benefits:
Unroasted coffee beans contain many more health benefits than its roasted counterpart. This is because they have not been subjected to high heat, so there is no decrease in antioxidants or caffeine content. The essential chemical for which green coffee is so popular is chlorogenic acid. Effects of chlorogenic acid, referred to as CGA are:
- promoting breakdown of fats,
- preventing the conversion of sugars to fats and flushing them from the body,
- accelerating the burning process and promoting weight loss as well as reducing appetite
Caffeine in green coffee:
- reduces fatigue and improves concentration,
- contributes to mental and physical vitality;
- relaxes muscles, relieves pain and stress and increases performance.
The ratio of CGA acid is 80,000mg/1kg. Green coffee has antibacterial properties, reducing the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Drinking green coffee also reduces feelings of hunger.
CAUTION: Green coffee beans are very hard and require a top-quality grinder to grind them. Green coffee can damage commercially available machines. Therefore, we grind the coffee only coarsely. We recommend preparing the beverage by simply pouring boiling water over the ground coffee or using a French press.
